Blinded by sticky notes? As a full-time blogger and Internet marketing consultant (in a small town) I am constantly surfing the net looking for blogs that I feel have something unique that they can contribute on the subject of blogging, usable things that I can add to my portfolio of teaching aids. I especially like blogs that focus on tools for the beginning blogger because they are very conscious of keeping things simple, taking nothing for granted and making it easier for a person new to blogging to understand what it is capable of. Enabling the newbie to grasp more useful info about what this blogging and social media stuff is what it’s all about.

Walk Before You Blog Is My Motto

Maybe sounds too corny for some folks but who knows what little quip or idea it takes to launch yourself into the viralsphere. I have heard this little cliche, walk before you run many times, and I hesitated to repeat such an overused expression but it just happens to be accurate when describing the process of learning about blogging and social media. In my case, as a professional blogger, if I am not constantly out there looking, I feel like I am missing out on some killer app. Plus, as a person that teaches blogging and proper use of social media, one must stay current and up to date!

So, to make a long story short - on this particular day, looking out the window of my office at home, it’s just starting to snow, and I am surfing the net for blog goodies. Lo and behold I find this pretty cool site about blogging and after reading a number of posts there it doesn’t take too long before I feel comfortable about recommending it to those new to blogging, especially prospective clients of Payson Web. Interestingly enough, it’s called Beginner Blogger I recommend you head over there soon and take a look. Find a post that interests you or provides value and after reading it, comment on it.

That’s what I did with their post on How To Deal With Information Overload And Take Action. It’s addressed to us more experienced bloggers and offers encouragement to get off the dime and TAKE ACTION! It further advises us to “stop reading pointless emails and take action on the information you have at your disposal, stop subscribing to blogs, email lists, RSS feeds, ebooks etc that are no longer providing you with VALUE.” Sheesh, sounds like that Sarge guy wants to take all the fun out of a blogger’s life!

But seriously, it is good advice, to an experienced blogger and a new one, making a point that a huge company like Nike built a fortune with, JUST DO IT! The additional value I got from it is that it addresses the problem I have of feeling that if I stop gathering information I will miss out on something. Sarge, the guy that created Beginner Blogger (g’day mate!) knows that feeling too, I suspect.

Maybe I will miss out on something but Sarge suggests “the reason that you should unsubscribe and stopping reading all RSS feeds is because you may already have enough information at your disposal. Bingo! It hit me, I can use this same concept to help me overcome a dilemma, one that I have with my customers, business owners who keep gathering information about Internet marketing, someday meaning to pull the trigger and take their business to a new level using the power of the Internet. Problem is, that someday never seems to come.

I compare it to a person who won’t buy a new computer, Plasma TV, or Ipod because they are afraid that something new and better will come along 6 months later and obsolete their new toy. I used to do this with cars and it cost me dearly, trying to keep up with the Jones’s. It’s a lousy excuse to do nothing is all it is, ask yourself what that item is capable of doing for you NOW, does that computer have enough memory and features to keep you happy NOW? does that Plasma TV have a wonderful, clear picture NOW?, will that Ipod let you download all your music NOW, will it make you happy if you own it NOW? If so, TAKE ACTION, buy the darn thing and enjoy - NOW!

BB’s article inspired me to take a similar approach with the concept he talks about, applying his TAKE ACTION method to my sales pitch, but instead of buying it NOW, as I suggested above, how about calling me NOW. You have all the information you are ever going to need, make the decision to do something. Don’t procrastinate, avoid the frustration of  information overload, paralysis by analysis, whatever name you wish to give it. Business owners in Payson and the Rim Country can be shown how to set themselves apart, affordably, and Payson Web is here to help.

Help!!You may get to a stage where you don’t know what else to do with your business, from a marketing standpoint, it’s just so expensive to advertise. You don’t really know if you need a blog or if social media can do anything for you, you may be afraid to ask anyone because you don’t know who you can trust. Your business may be stuck in a bit of a rut where you’re not gaining any more traffic or sales and you don’t know what to do about it. But, you, the owner of the business, has the power to do something about it!

Sarge is right when he tells us that THIS is the time when a business should be gathering more information to create new marketing strategies. But once they have IDEAS from the INFORMATION they have gathered, then it’s time to stop gathering more information and start TAKING ACTION. And that means calling the experts at Payson Web for help!
